The ScrollTextWidget voor Cp4 was built in Actionscript 2 and not usable in Captivate 5. I have rebuilt the widget in ActionScript 3 and improved the widget panel. With Captivate a Textarea widget is supplied . The ScrollTextWidget has the following advantages:
- HTML formatting
- More than 400 characters
- Transparent background
- Better ‘scroll’
- Adjustable border
Example
Download/buy
The demo version of the Scrolling Text widget is free to download. In the textbox of the demo you see two red bars. The version without bars cost a minimum of € 10. That’s really not too much, especially when you consider that your payment goes entirely to www.e-learningforkids.org (Paypal will sugest a payment of € 20. If you think this is to much, you can change the pament to € 10).

Important notice (April 5, 2011)
In the past two weeks I received two messages that when you start the widget in runtime mode (what the user sees) in a flash some of the admin interface is visible. The best workarround is to apply a short fade-in . Befor you buy the widget always do a test with the free demo version.

HELP. I jsut purchased your widget and when I preview the course, I see the widget properties box flicker on before the scroll box appears. Is this a bug that you can fix! I really need this widget to work for me. Once the flicker goes away, all is well.
Great widget ! – I applied it to a course and then adjusted the published HTML file to autofit different browser sizes. Unfortunately it is not working. I discovered a code adjustment that may make the widget autoscale with the course.

Would you be able to incorporate this function into the Scroll Text Widget?
Thanks!
I bought the widget. Unfortunately it is not scalable. Would you be willing to change a few lines of code to enable scaling for the widget? See this blog for more details. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/738006?decorator=print&displayFullThread=true
Thank you.
Hello Rob,
I will give it a try. Do I have to add only the first line to the code, or both lines?
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_BORDER;
stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
Chris
Chris,
I don’t know for sure. Email me and we can talk more about this. My email address was entered in the “mail” field of the leave a reply section of this page. When you posted your response I was not notified and until now didn’t think about checking the post again. As a result a lot of time has gone by and I still need to get this part of my project out the door quickly.
Thanks, Rob
Hi Rob,
I added the code to the widget and it seems to work. You already received a testversion of the widget.
Chris
Hi Chris
I have been unable to create an ordered list using your scrolling textbox widget. While my html code is …, it will only disply bullets. Can you help?
can you send the cp-file (or an example of it) to me?
Hi
This widget worked fine for Captivate 5.0 but I just upgraded to 5.5 and it is causing the published project to ‘hide’ the right side of the screen. Any ideas please how to make it compatible with 5.5?
Thanks
I haven’t been able to test it on CP5.5 myself. At the moment my holliday starts tomorrow. In the second week of August I will test it and look into it.
Hello Will,
I was on holliday and wasn’t able to check it before. The problem has to do with the previewmode. I recently changed the code to make the scrolltext scalable from HTML. After pressing F10 (previewmode in CP) you do not see the whole animation. After resizing the preview window you can see all of it. I see no problems in the exported SWF (or when I preview with F12). Am I right?
Chris
Can you alter the color/style of the scroll bar to make it have a more modern look?
Hi
I bought your Widget and it works fine in Cap5.
Could you tell which HTML tags it supports?
The widget uses a Flash textfield. There is a list of supported tags on
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/text/TextField.html#htmlText
Hi,
I have to do some design and programming for this. I have no plans to implement this in the standard widget. For other customers I did some customizations to the widget. Of course, I can also do this for your company. Contact me at info@dorna.nl
I just bought your textScroll widget. It works fine. But it does not support my Thai language. Could you please modify the widget to support Thai?
Hello Thongjoon,
Unfortunately I do not speak Thai (cannot read it either), translating the widget is beyond my possibilities.
